PTI to protest against new canals on Indus

KARACHI:

The Karachi chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called upon the people of Karachi to protest against the construction of six new canals on the Indus River, warning that this project could lead to an acute water shortage in Sindh, including the metropolis.

While addressing a press conference at Insaf House, PTI Karachi Division General Secretary Arsalan Khalid strongly criticised the PPP, holding the party’s governance responsible for Karachi’s chronic water crisis. He warned that if more canals were built on the Indus River, the city – often referred to as “Mini Pakistan”- would face severe consequences.

Khalid accused the PPP of compromising Sindh’s water resources and claimed that the party’s policies were detrimental to the province. He further stated that during PTI’s tenure, the president Dr Arif Alvi had refused to sign off on these canal projects, reiterating his commitment to protecting Sindh’s water rights.
