Virat Kohli applauds Rajat Patidar on becoming RCB’s new captain

Virat Kohli congratulated Rajat Patidar on becoming Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s new captain on Thursday, in a video posted by the IPL side on social media.

“The way you have grown in this franchise and the way you have performed, you’ve made a place in the hearts of all RCB fans. This is very well deserved,” said Kohli.

“Myself and the other team members will be right behind you, Rajat,” added Kohli.

It was widely rumoured that Kohli could return as the captain for RCB for the upcoming season. Kohli had a nine-year spell in the helm of the team, before he stepped down from the role, which was filled by Faf du Plessis for the last three seasons.

RCB Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat did confirm that Kohli was indeed considered as an option for the captaincy role going into IPL 2025.

“Of course, Virat was an option. The thing is Virat doesn’t need the captaincy title to lead. He leads with an example with the bat. He sets the tone. And then there are things you don’t see. The way he trains and prepares,” said Bobat at the event where Patidar was announced as the captain.
