Tyla’s dress cut in half by Olivier Rousteing at the 2024 Met Gala

South African Grammy winner Tyla received accolades for her stunning appearance at the 2024 Met Gala. She wore a custom Balmain gown adorned with real sand, specially molded to fit her body.

Tyla’s ensemble, which landed her on several best-dressed lists, perfectly embraced the event’s “Garden of Time” theme.

Initially, Tyla arrived on the red carpet in a form-fitting strapless dress that adhered to the theme. However, once inside, Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing transformed the gown into a mini dress using scissors, a moment he shared on his Instagram.

Despite Rousteing’s precise cut, there was a risk involved. According to Page Six, Tyla’s team had a hotel robe on standby in case of mishaps.

Before the switch up, Tyla shared with Vogue that her look was made of three shades of actual sand, inspired by “the sands of time.”

Prior to the alteration, Tyla had revealed to Vogue that her dress featured three shades of real sand, symbolizing the passage of time.

She complemented her outfit with an hourglass-shaped purse and showcased an intricate manicure resembling water droplets.

The snug fit of her dress made climbing the Met Gala’s iconic stairs a challenge, requiring assistance from several individuals to carry her into the event.
